Global Warming Damaging Oceans

The globe is becoming a tinder-box and a veritable greenhouse. A greenhouse is a specially created room or building that is made of special glass that keeps the heat hemmed in, so as to be beneficial to the growth of plants and vegetables within the greenhouse. Unfortunately, with the increase in pollution and unbridled emission of greenhouse gases, the earth itself is becoming a greenhouse. Carbon dioxide and nitrogen emissions along with depletion of the ozone layer from the atmosphere result in the incessant increase in global temperatures that are causing global warming, the indeed threatens all living creatures on earth, including humans. Not only the scientists around the world, but also the laypersons are deeply concerned and worried about the consequences of global warming that threatens to rob the earth of its beauty and habitability. We have not inherited the earth from our parents, but merely borrowed it from future generations. If we are not careful right now, we could be left with an earth that is arid, a huge desert, totally denuded and robbed of all its magnificence and splendor.
The effect of global warming is being felt in different parts of the globe including oceans. Studies have revealed that the oceans are becoming warmer which is bringing about many unwanted effects and results in its wake. This is causing great changes in water levels as well as marine life from across the tropics, where the effect is more pronounced down to the tropical warmer zones. For instance, it has been seen that there is a virtual elimination of salmon from the Pacific Ocean, and there is huge cost and risk to life for corals, plankton and various kinds of oceanic fauna and flora too. The tropical corals have really been devastated and ravaged in the wake of global oceanic warming and unabated rising temperatures. The amount of data and evidence found in this regard is most conclusive and mind boggling to the extent that it is on the verge of changing irreversibly forever, unless urgent steps are taken to stem the rot and arrest this damaging process.
The increase in oceanic temperature is being manifested in the loss of polar ice caps. For millions of years, the polar ice caps have formed an impregnable and undaunted fortress in the Arctic as well as Antarctic regions. It is now being seen that the permafrost, the ice caps as well as sea ice in the Arctic region have been receding. This has also been accompanied by the rise in the global ocean levels that threatens to inundate huge tracts of land and also many cities including New York, Mumbai, Karachi and large parts of Bangladesh in the delta region. It is said that the whole country of Maldives would disappear due to global warming and increase in ocean levels. Many glaciers in the Arctic as well as Himalayas have started disappearing too, which is leading to shrinkage in the rivers, which is that water is the huge part of the Gangetic plains in India which sustain millions of people.
